7 Packing Tips for your Winter Vacation
Now that winter is upon us, many of us are dreaming of that wonderful winter vacation, often to a locale that is much warmer than where we live! For most people, packing can be a challenge and not the most fun task in the world. To make it less stressful for you, I have compiled my top 7 packing tips for your winter vacation!
7 Packing Tips for your Winter Vacation
01 / Start with a list: as you think of things that you will want to bring, start making a list. If you try to keep everything in your head, you are bound to forget something. A list also provides a great reference tool for later trips. Super tip: Once you are home, adjust your list to make note of what items you didn’t use. That way, you already have a list built for your next trip!
02 / Take your suitcase out a week before the trip: start packing your suitcase early and you won’t be stressed the night before you leave for your trip. Getting ready to leave for a vacation can be overwhelming, as at the same time you are ensuring that you have things all ready to go at work. By starting the process early, you can avoid that crazy, stressed out packing marathon the night before.
03 / Think about what events or outings you will be going on: do you need a more dressy outfit? Are you going on tours where you will be walking a lot? Will you be working out while on vacation? Thinking about these types of questions will help you decide exactly what type of clothing and footwear you should bring.
Runners can take up a lot of space in a suitcase so consider wearing your runners on the plane.
04 / Lay your outfits out on the bed: laying everything out will help immensely. Try to mix and match as much as possible. Using a base color such as black for pants and/or skirts will allow you to mix and match more easily. You can add color with tops, sweaters, and scarfs. Also, consider what clothing can do double duty – can you dress up or dress down a particular article? I love using skorts for both walking about and wearing for a casual dinner with a dressy top and dressy sandals.
05 / If you are checking your bag, carry essentials with you: I have been SO fortunate never to have had my luggage lost (I sure hope I didn’t just jinx myself!). However, I still always carry “insurance” with me on my carry on when checking my suitcase. Make sure to also carry any prescription medications with you on the plane. Super tip: If you are heading to a warm destination from a frigid one, pack your flip flops and a change of clothes in your carry on so if, by some chance your suitcase doesn’t arrive at the same time that you do, you will have something lighter to change into at your destination.
06 / Keep a bag containing all the cords you will need for your electronic devices: I have a small bag that contains all my cords, as well as an extra pair of reading glasses and earphones. I do enough traveling that I have extra cords so I always keep everything in my cord travel bag and just have to grab it when packing. This way, I know I will never forget anything. If you don’t have enough cords to keep them in a travel bag all the time, keep a list of the cords and other items you need in the bag so you can refer to it when you travel.

07 / Remember to pack non-aerosols in your checked baggage: I learned this the hard way. I once had a can of aerosol hairspray leak in my suitcase! So now I always make sure that I take non-aerosol sun-screen, bug spray, and hairspray in my bag. In addition, I also pack anything that could leak in Ziploc bags.
I hope these tips will help make your next packing session a little easier. A little bit of planning will go a long way to reduce stress while getting ready for your next vacation. As an extra gift for you, I’ve put together a pretty download of my 7 tips for your winter vacation. Enjoy!
